3 Simple Ways To Start “Going Green” In Your Small Business

January 20th, 2010 by Lisa Sims Leave a reply »

We are 20 days into the year 2010. One of my focuses for this year is to make a more conscious effort to be more green in my business and my personal life. Here are three simple ways to stretch your cash in your small business while going green and helping the environment:

  • Read magazines online. Stop spending money on magazines (unless your business demands update-to-date magazines) that can cause clutter! Unless you can get the magazines free, read them online. Not only are you saving money but you are reducing your carbon footprint and taking a step towards “going green”. Plus, you are stretching a dollar which is always a good thing.
  • Reduce paper usage. Most businesses utilize paper but do we have to use so much of it? Let’s make a more conscious effort to read on our computer screen before printing. Likewise, utilize electronic document sharing applications such as Google Docs to share documents. Also, don’t forget to utilize pdfs instead of printing documents(whenever possible). If you must print documents (and if possible), try to utilize recycled paper.
  • Recycle ink and toner cartridges. Instead of throwing out your ink and toner cartridges, recycle them. Staples gives a discount on your cartridges ($3 per cartridge) when you bring them in to purchase  cartridges. Don’t forget to use your Staples Rewards Card to accumulate Staples Rewards (it’s free).

I hope these 3 simple ways to go green in your small business help you get started and make a more conscious effort to protect the environment.  Go Green!
